From the transcript of the Connecticut House of Representatives, debate on SB 660 - May 3, 2006

“REP. URBAN: (43rd)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. When we start talking about carbon in the atmosphere, and we hear things like junk science, etc. , that the environmentalists are Chicken Littles, telling us the sky is falling, I would like to point out to you, Mr. Speaker, that one of the industries that is the most concerned about the carbon in our atmosphere, Mr. Speaker, is the insurance industry.

And they are one of the main proponents of reducing carbon in our atmosphere. Mr. Speaker, that is because global climate change will lead to sea level rise, one of the issues, and increased severity of storms. And the insurance industry is extremely concerned—

...there are people who believe that global warming is not an issue, and I was pointing out to you, Mr. Speaker, that there is an industry, a very big industry, that is most concerned about global warming, and that is the insurance industry.

And they're concerned because the sea level rise and the severity of storms that will be brought about with climate change and the amount of carbon that's in our atmosphere, will lead to cities like New York being under water, Southern Florida being under water, the California Coast, island nations will, in fact, disappear.

So you have corporations, like Lloyd's of London, who are one of the major proponents of limiting carbon in our atmosphere.

And we, as the State of Connecticut, have the chance here to make a beginning on this very, very important issue, so I urge my colleagues to not dismiss this Bill because they think it's nothing but environmentalists telling us that the sky is falling.

But listen to what business, in particular, the insurance industry is saying about this very, very critical problem. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.”

From the organizing meeting of Government Administration and Elections Committee – January 8, 2007:

“Representative Caruso:  I am delighted to introduce the House Vice-Chair for this committee, Diana Urban.  I consider Diana to be one of the most talented legislators in this building and I think she will bring a lot to this committee.”
