From the debate on a bill to allow children of immigrants who attend Connecticut high schools for four years and then graduate to pay in-state tuition at public colleges and universities - transcript of the Connecticut House of Representatives - May 17, 2007:

REP. TRUGLIA: (145th)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I rise in support of this legislation. I believe you fight poverty with economic opportunity and education is the answer. I believe that we must support our young people with a chance to succeed for all of our benefit.

Connecticut has always had an educated and skilled workforce. That is certainly one of the reasons for our economic growth.

We now need to make certain that every student who has the ability to perform in our universities and colleges must be given that chance, because for our economic survival, we must educate all our students. I believe that it is not only morally right, it is in our economic self-interest. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
